Single Ply TPO –

TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) single-ply roofing membranes have rapidly gained popularity as one of the fastest-growing commercial roofing products. They are widely accepted in the industry due to their numerous performance and installation benefits. With a rising demand for heat-reflective and energy-efficient roofing systems, TPO single-ply roofing membranes stand out by offering exceptional resistance to ultraviolet, ozone, and chemical exposure. Modified Bitumen-

Modified Bitumen (MB) roofing is an asphalt-based roofing system closely related to Built-up-Roof (BUR), specifically designed for low-slope or “flat” roof structures. These engineered membranes originated in Europe during the mid-1960s and have been successfully utilized in the United States and Canada since around 1975.

Blending synthetic rubberized polymers with asphalt provides Modified Bitumen (MB) roofing with enhanced properties such as increased resistance to brittleness in cold temperatures, improved flow resistance at high temperatures, and greater elasticity. Unlike the blowing process used for BUR asphalt modification, this method achieves the desired characteristics.

The system offers various surfacing options, including factory-applied mineral surfaces, gravel surfaces, and “cool roof” coatings, which boast high reflectivity to reduce building cooling costs. Mineral-surfaced MB products typically come with white granules, but they are also available in designer colors to match asphalt shingles or complement the building’s design.

MB offers designers and installers a wide range of options compared to BUR. It can be applied using the torch-application method, “hot-mopped” like BUR, or with “cold-process” adhesives. The latest innovation is the self-adhering sheet, which utilizes special polymer combinations to modify the underside of the MB sheet. The rolls come with a release paper, and when the installer removes it and rolls out the sheet, it adheres to the substrate on its own. This method eliminates the risks associated with torches and hot asphalt and is completely free of VOC fumes during and after application.
